Here's how you can spend the holidays

So that you don't look back at the end of the holidays and regret the way you spent it.

THE END OF THE BEGINNING

Most of us have 2 months of school holidays left, and if you have not planned any big holidays, you'd want to spend them as beautifully as possible. By beautiful, I mean working AND playing hard. 2 months is an extravagant amount of time that can push you toward your goals if you do act on it consistently. Think about it, if I meditated just 5 minutes consistently every day, I'd have meditated for a total of 5 hours by the end of the holidays.

BUILDING THE RIGHT SKILLS

Holidays are the best times to start building habits because unless you are in a job/internship, there is loads of time on your hands. You are not amidst the interruptive chaos of school life, and there is plenty of time to sample habits and pick which you love. I'd like to be more specific now. This habit is best served if it makes you learn a new skill. For example, from Year 3 onwards, I wanted to learn coding and 3d modeling. Every 2 days or so, I finished practicing a tutorial I found online that was related to those 2 skills. The habit of me practicing the desired skill every 2 days is the key message here. When my school year started, I was able to put my newfound skills to practice in my coursework projects to submit work of higher quality. I improved my work and school life because of the one hour I spent every 2 days.

SUSTAINABILITY:

The length of the school holidays makes it a double-edged sword. While such time is ample for gathering new skills, it may also cause many of us to fall out with our habits and forget the importance of consistency. So whichever skill you are starting to practice, please pick one that genuinely interests you. Take an entire week to read up on potential skills that interest you, give them a taster, and pick the best fit. It's common advice that if you do a job you love, you will not have to work on any day. Mostly accurate. If you pick a skill that is authentic to you, it will be hard for you to lose interest and quit it.

Importantly, mind your surrounding influences. Your parents would want you to take tuition for next year. Your friends started streaming their gameplay on Twitch, some are taking on internships. The desire to outdo them and do what others are doing is silent but powerful. It seems bliss to follow the crowd, thinking you will land at a spot similar to theirs. But remember, bliss stems from ignorance. Ignorance of love for yourself and your interests. You don't know what interests you? Give journaling a go. Try asking yourself these questions. What energizes me after I do it?

Why does it energize me? Does it benefit me in any way? How can I do it bigger, badder, and better? PERSONAL TOUCH

My advice to spend your time

  1. Read lots of books. Fiction or non-fiction are both fine. If its non-fiction, find books that are meaningful, thematic, and contain life lessons (e.g., the 5 people you meet in heaven)

  2. Hit the gym, or at least get in some form of workout, TWICE A WEEK AT LEAST. Please?

  3. Start asking around your seniors and research how the next school year will be. Revise through topics once a week maybe, so that your mind is sharp.

  4. Meet people, talk with them, and engage in as many activities as you can.

  5. I'm tired of saying it but meditate. If you can't, there's something off about you.

SAY GOODBYE Stay strong, and live life. C'mon, consider hitting the sub button and sharing it now least dude? Proud of you, keep improving. With heart, A fellow student.
